Codex: Adeptus Custodes arrives early, plus fixes to importing and naming armies

Codex: Adeptus Custodes is out, but the Munitorum Field Manual hasn’t moved Custodes onto it yet. Rather than make you wait, the app now carries the codex’s points, its rewritten datasheets and all 13 of its detachments, read from creators’ early coverage of the book. Treat it as provisional: the moment GW’s manual prints Custodes’ codex points, the app switches to the manual’s numbers on its own. Also here: a quiet Field Manual fix to Gretchin, and two builder fixes from 8 October.

Every other army’s points are as they were on 2 October, apart from Gretchin, below.

Custodes points

Custodes are dearer almost across the board: tougher, faster models, now fielded in smaller squads. Custodian Guard now come only as a unit of three, at 240; before, a unit of four was 180. Sisters of Silence barely move.

  • Caladius Grav-tank: the anti-tank arachnus cannon adds 20, for 250.

Datasheets

The Telemon Heavy Dreadnought is rewritten in full: 10″ move, Toughness 11, 14 wounds, a new Adrathic Desolator and caestus fists, and a rule that takes 1 off the Damage of shooting aimed at it. Custodian Guard move 8″ at Toughness 7 with 5 wounds and OC 3, and gain the Trusted Sentinel keyword. Wardens, Allarus, Aquilon, Venatari, Vertus Praetors, both Contemptors, Trajann, the Blade Champion, two Shield-Captains, Prosecutors and Vigilators take the new stats and weapons the coverage showed.

Squad sizes change with them: Custodian Guard, Aquilon and Venatari come as three; Wardens and Allarus as two or three.

Martial Ka’tah is the codex’s new version: each unit is readied at the start of your Command phase and can spend it on one of six ka’tah abilities, from moving through models to re-rolling hit rolls of 1.

All 13 codex detachments

The codex’s detachments replace the old Custodes list. Guardians of the Throne costs 3 Detachment Points; the other twelve cost 1. Six of them are Shield Hosts (Aquilan Shield, Dread Host, Emissaries Imperatus, Emperor’s Chosen, Shadowkeepers and Solar Watch), and you can take only one; each names a Favoured Ka’tah that does a little more. The rest are built around a kind of unit: Auric Champions, Honoured Companions, Lions of the Emperor, Might of the Moritoi, Grav-assault Force and Null Maiden Vigil.

Every detachment rule, stratagem and enhancement is in the app, restated in our own words.

Not in yet

  • Enhancement points. Only Might of the Moritoi’s two are priced so far (30 each), so only those two can be bought. The others are described in each detachment’s rules and become buyable the day the Field Manual prices them.
  • Force Dispositions for the new detachments, apart from Guardians of the Throne (Priority Assets and Purge the Foe) and the four the manual already lists.
  • New units: Sentinel Guard and Gyrfalcon Jetbikes. Separate prices for the Aquilon loadouts are not in yet either.
  • Units the codex drops (Valerian, the Venerable Land Raider and the Venerable Contemptor) stay available until the Field Manual removes them.
Why provisional. Points normally come straight from GW’s Field Manual. These come from creators’ early coverage, ahead of the manual, so a number could still be off. Each Custodes price switches itself off the day the manual prints a different one, and the app then uses the manual’s price.

Gretchin

GW quietly corrected the Field Manual on 6 October: Gretchin now read 10 models for 45 and 20 for 80. The app already treated the second size as 20, so the price you pay is unchanged.

Builder fixes, 8 October

  • Imported lists keep their size. A list pasted from the GW app used to open at 2,000 points whatever it said. It now reads the list’s total and opens at the battle size it fits, so a 1,000-point list opens as an Incursion.
  • Change battle size any time. A new row under your army’s name switches between 1,000, 2,000 and 3,000 points.
  • Characters no longer drop out of imports. GW-app lines like “Canoness with Jump Pack (Warlord) [Fire and Fury] (attached to Seraphim Squad)” now come through with the Warlord, the enhancement and the attachment.
  • Blank army names. Clearing your army’s name left nothing to tap, so it could never be renamed. A blank name now goes back to “Unnamed Army”, with a pencil to rename it.
